Bratenstein
The valve covers on the EA81 engine I am rebuilding are stuck on really tight. Repeating beatings with a rubber mallet won't budge them. I tried using the 2x4 and hammer, but still stuck. I suppose someone put on some great gasket sealer once upon a time. Any suggestions for how to break them loose without wrecking the covers? Syonyk
Are you sure you have all the bolts removed? When I pulled apart my EA82 to fix the cam cover oil seal, there was a bolt or two I missed under the gunk. -=Russ=-

But I will go check again to avoid making a fool of myself .
ShawnW
Gentle tap on all surface area of the valve cover doesnt work that means somebody took RTV and stuck it to the cork or just put a large amt of it in there at one point. Bust out the prybar and gently pry em off.
[HTi]Johnson
Hey they won't budge that should mean no leaks? Don't fix what's not broken . Yeah...well...won't budge? They are made of steel...i'm sure they can take a beating. I'd pry them off. Yeah EA81s only have two bolts. Maybe some PB Blaster or some other penetrating oil around the covers? Bratenstein
Yeah, I have some penetrating oil soaking on the edges. I suspect it will do no good. I will try prying them off tonight. I guess nothing but force is going to break the seal since the whole point of using RTV is to make them stick no matter what.
