baggyshorts
hey ya'll...i have a '86 soobie GL wagon, 5 spd. and i live in deep south texas where it's always warm pretty much all year long. i have no use for the thermostat (so i was told)the a/c comp. didnt work so i took it out along with the hoses and that radiator core, and all other related stuff. dont have a heater as well, my soobie has been running pretty good, the temp seems to always stay in the low 1/4 - 1/2 range, never really heated up at all. now in the summertime it does get pretty hot down here. and i just basically use the soobie for daily commuting to and from work and other errands. i was wondering can i remove the heater core? why? i really dont know...my radiator is somewhat dirty. i do have antifreeze in it, i did a flush, i know one of fans is working...what about the other fan, whats it for? and can i rig it up to also have a switch to turn it on and blow more air? i dunno u guys tell me what u think. thanks baggyshorts
[HTi]Johnson
The other fan was for AC, you should be able to turn it on by turning the AC function on in the car. As for the heater core? Keep it in there so if you car does get a little hotter than it should be, you could set it on AC with the tempature switch on HOT and it will blow air by the heater core and cool it off and the AC switch would turn on the secondary fan. I've had the heater trick cool down a car pretty fast. My two cents. [HTi]Johnson

[HTi]Johnson you're right - been there, done that - great MacGyver fix that'll get you home, but not much farther make sure your windows work too it would be a VERY good idea to keep it for emergency cooling since you do live in texas where it is hot, and where things are a good distance apart so if you overheat due to a bad thermostat/clogged radiator, you are not stranded someplace with a blown headgasket
