Ratty2Austin
so i have been collecting most of the things I need for my ea81 + d/r conversion for my '80 GL1600 wagon... so far I have gotten the tranny, the clutch stuff, and the longblock in the car. now its time for the intake and weber, and keeping all the emissions stuff out! one problem I have run into (besides bow-wow closing a minute before I pulled up to buy my weber, and they wont be open till tuesday!) is the metal hose things that come off teh exaust, and I cant unbolt them with the tools I have- the bolts are too rusty (i will probably strip them, or round them off) so I cant remove them that way... I was thinking about cutting the pipe, and smushing it flat, or stuffing a piece of scrap steel into it, and welding it shut! anyways, I am going to see if I can post a pic here- (a pic test)

MilesFox
nice idea austin!. just shove a spark plug there and weld it on the tube. it worked for me.(ea82) i got a pic on http://photos.yahoo.com/milesfox you could get a line wrench, its like a box end with a cut-out to let the pipe go through. Ratty2Austin
almost done.... all I need to do now is install the weber, the distributor, and do all the fluids and tune it! here is another pic of the progress- look! its shiny!! (he he.. i also got bored with some spreaypaint) I plugged up the EGR valve assembly with a piece of sheet aluminum, (cut it to fit like a gasket, but it has no holes...) so there is no EGR- is that a bad thing?? I would think not seince I am going to be using the weber, and NO emissions stuff... (note the little blue caps over the vacume outlets...) is the ea71's Y pipe narrower than the ea81's ?? I was having trouble with it lining up properly! hopefully when it heats up it will line up better, cause the pipe is being spread apart by the engine! Dr. RX
Yes, the EA71 Y pipe is slightly narrower then the EA81. I just pulled mine apart when I installed an EA81 into Lewy.
edrach
I have a y-pipe if the old one doesn't work for you.
ezapar
Austin I just used a short piece of rubber hose, and capped it off with a bottle cap. DId it on both sides, works sweet.
MilesFox
an ea82 spfi y pipe would be really nice. have to plug the 02 sendoe hole, (or just use a dead o2 sensor) it would still fit your rear half of the exhaust system, and match the exhaust mount on the tranny
