erikvr
Recently, I have been hearing a loud noise when I first start the car. The same noise the car makes when it is low on oil (I did that only once!). Is that what you guys call the Tick Of Death? Anyhow, this has just started in the last few months and only happens if the outsidetemp gets below 50 or so. Then it goes away after a few seconds. If it does not go away, I turn off the car and immediately restart it and the sound is gone. I have searched through the threads for answers but see nothing........... . The oil pump was changed 100k miles ago....could this be the problem...or its mickey mouse seal I hear about??
torxxx
Yes that is TOD. Thats the lifters loosing pressure while the car sits. try a reseal first and it that dont fix it, do the pump
WJM
My RX has a good pump and a fresh reseal...and it does it ocassionally....as long as it goes away less than 1 min after startup, its all good.
MilesFox
try a thicker oil next change, 15-w40. if that dont cure it consider the pump seals. dont worry about the pump itself
Caboobaroo
Yes, check to see if you have any oil leaks. Main places to check are the valve covers, oil pan, oil pump, front/rear crank seal and cam seals. Funny thing is my RX never had the TOD when it ran. It was abused pretty badly and had some oil leaks but no TOD...
MorganM
This wont be the 'Death' of your car When was your last oil change + filter? A quality filter will also have antidrainback built in. Should take only a sec to get oil pressure.

I put in a FRAM filter, but after reading some threads, will switch to a soobie filter next.

I can figure out the oil pan/pump ones, but as for the others...........

Did another oil change, new filter, put some miles on her and its cleared up now. Hope yours clears up too!
