wuestinator
i found a 91 legacy L awd wagon for $700. 208K it needs an exhaust, a cv boot, and a basic tune up (plugs, wires, rotor cap, button, etc.).it bogs a bit when accelerating hard... im hoping the basic tune up would help that out alot. the doors and hatch dont like to open correctly. do you think the tune up would fix the bogging/slow acceleration problem? is there anything else that i should look for, issue problems? thanks

Or even take it to a Suabru Dealership or a Suabru Repair Shop to get the Codes.

Do a search on this board for Pull Codes or something to that effect. The User legacy777 has a Website with good instructions. The Link is http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html I think. SevenSisters
Are you sure it needs a rotor button and cap? It should be distributorless if it's a '91. Might want to free up the IAC with a can of Seafoam as part of the tune-up. Got to love those '91s.
wuestinator
haha funny story. i "bough" the car and when i was driving it home, i noticed that it was getting hot and was over heated, then when i was getting over to pull over, the head gasket or something blew. oil and smoke was everywhere. now she gave me the car for free. it was crazy and i almost died. so what are my options at this point? brus brother
Well is there any rust i.e. is the car now useful only as a planter? So far, she "gave" you a free car that you may need to dispose of. Tell us more about the interior, exterior and the car's general condition. What are your skills or interests in getting down and dirty with this car. You may be able to part out the car on this website if it isn't reasonable for you to repair. You might want to "store" this gift in the woman's yard until you figure out which way to go. SevenSisters
On second thought, the Seafoam and tune-up probably won't help. You got it at the right price, but sorry for your experience, Find out exactly what failed and determine the cost to fix it or put in a rebuilt engine. Decide if the car is in good enough condition to warrant spending the money. There are a lot of engine swap posts and sources on this board. wuestinator
well the doors and everything are pretty messed up are far as oping and closing goes.. haha. the gas door thing doesn't close, but before i bought the car i was planning on using part of an old speaker magnet to hold it shut (im ghetto like that). theres some rust spots and dings... but its really not that bad of a car. i have a picture somewhere, ill upload it after this post. the clutch didn't seem too bad, but if im going to pull the motor im going to replace it as well. from what i understand, theres a EJ22 in there. i found an EJ20 on eaby for $390, which i am to understand that it the jap equivilent to the american EJ22. does anyone know if it will match up to the tranny and what not? i am very mechanical, but this is my first subaru that i've even looked at. im a volvo man at heart. but the subies awd and the price is going to be good for when im move to utah (im a ski bum) so that was the purpose of purchasing the vehicle in the first place. but i am willing to do what i have to do. i plan on getting the car towed to my house sometime soon, then i will update you with what actually happened, it was raining and dark so i didn't feel like trying to look.
