Can't find the right o2 sensor

Recommended Posts

I went to buy a new o2 sensor for my 89 GL10 wagon today. The guy at Napa tried tell sell me the one wire type. Same at Kragen. But, the one in my car is the 3 wire type. What's the deal here? I thought maybe someone had put a different one in my car but I went to the junkyard today and I found another 89 Gl turbo wagon and it had the same 3 wire o2 sensor. Anybody have a part number for me or know what the deal is with my o2. Any help would be appreciated.

i think the one wire will work. your 3 wire sensor has a heater, so it starts working faster. there is an extra 2 wires, for the ground and the power for the heater in the o2 sensor. and the other wire is the signal to the computer.

as far as i know, if you want, you can put a one wire in your car, and just tape off the two extra wires.

or go to a parts supplier tha knows a hatch from an ej.

All California models came with 3 wire o2 sensors.

Exactally - just tell the parts guy it is a CA car, and he should be able to get you the right thing - does anybody know if it would be an upgrade to switch to a 3-wire type?

The only difference is that your computer will get a signal from the o2 sensor sooner when the engine is cold. ie you wont put out as much pollution when you first start your car up.

Went to napa and carquest today. They told me after seeing my 3 wire o2 that I would have to go to the dealer for one. That sucks! Probably cost me an arm and a leg from them! Oh well I guess I have no choice.
