breaffyaviation
Looking at pulled EA 81 engine ,if you dont know its history, how can you tell if it lived in a brat or a passenger vehicle ?.I believe the brat engine developes its torque at a lower R.P.M. If this is correct, what are the differences , or what can be done to the wagon engine to get peak power at lower RPM? Is the camshaft profiled differently,? Different compression ratio? The manual is pretty silent on the subject. A second question : Has anybody machined their case to take a thrust bearing on the flywheel end, like they do with the VW aircraft conversions?Looking at that center main bearing,it looks like there is not much meat on it to withstand seriously increased thrust? Maybe my fears are more imagined than real, but no harm in asking. Thank you to those who took the time to read this. Regards , Jude
breaffyaviation
Ok, so forget the second patt of the question. Can anyone answer the first part ? Jude
erik litchy
if you want to move a torque curve why not have the cam reground?
ShawnW
The VW engines arent as well balanced as the Subaru engines. Don't worry about the bearing placement these have long proven their durability.
