cyboid
I need to rebuild an EJ20det motor from Japan. I need to know where to find internal parts(bearings etc.). This motor is used in a snadrail for Duning in Oregon. Will bearings and other parts from an EJ22 or EJ25 work? Thanx in advance. Cyboid
carfreak85
I really have no idea what parts to use inside, but subaru never made an EJ20DET. They did make an EJ20XX however.
Snowman
Go through Subaru for rebuild parts. I've had very good luck ordering from 1stsubaruparts.com. They have OEM stuff in many cases cheaper than the crap at NAPA. Call them and ask about your motor since it wasn't sold in the US. I would be willing to bet that most if not all of the stuff is the same as the US-market EJ20 motors.
outback_97
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=37 Nasioc should be able to help you out. You could also try the conversions area on Nasioc: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=87 Make sure you figure out the engine model code first before you post there... it's definitely not an EJ20DET (that sounds like a Nissanaru crossbreed) and Nasioc is not as forgiving to n00bs. You could just say it's a JDM EJ20T (I think that's correct to say). Lots of good technical info there, and the search function will get you some good info, mixed with some noise of course. To answer your question cyboid, many of the current WRX engine (2.0 liter) have the same internal components, where you will run into problems is the gaskets. A place the I use to get these type of parts for my JDM EJ20Gs is a place in Japan, ( http://www.japanparts.com/SubaruParts/ImprezaGCGF/Index.htm ), you'll need to give them exact information so that they can get the parts from a Japanese Subaru dealer. So, if you can give me so more info about the engine that you have, I should be able to narrow it down.

It is a EJ20DET(stamped on case) This motor is a JDM being used in a sandrail for the Oregon Dunes in Coos Bay. The Turbo is the stock unit that came with the motor. I have a second motor that I want to rebuild but not sure of internal bearings and such. What other info do you need?
kevinsUBARU
Wow, stamped like that on the case!? Picture to share with us? I thought that the motor importer was just getting Nissan and Subaru confused:lol:

I agree with Kevin, I'd like to see a picture of that stamped in the engine. I have had more the ten JDM EJ20 series engines go through my garage (both twin turbo and single turbo) and not one them ever had that stamped on the engine. Subaru do not make an EJ20 engine with that designation. The only thing that you should see is a place where EJ20 is cast into the block, under the alternator, and then some assembly numbers stamped in the block. Subaru never stamped the complete engine designation on the block, that information is on the data place by the strut tower.
