Caboobaroo Posted April 6, 2005 Share Posted April 6, 2005 I've been looking at buying a new oilpump for my RX since well, I'm doing everything short of a full rebuild. It has a new waterpump, new gaskets, new timing belts and a few other parts. So would it be better to just reseal the oilpump (150k miles) or just spend the 85 or so bucks and get a new one? I kinda know what everyone is going to say but I was just seeing if resealing it would be a good option as well and I can in a couple months, replace it with a new one... idosubaru Posted April 6, 2005 Share Posted April 6, 2005 reseal it. i've had a couple soobs with 200,000+ miles with the original oil pumps (i replaced the seals) and mine never tap. i never mic mine, but while it's apart you can mic it like mentioned. if it's in specs, leave it alone. singletrack Posted April 20, 2005 Share Posted April 20, 2005 So I broke my oil pump, broke the pressor sensor socket off, so the housing of the pump is trashed. This oil pump has less than 500 miles on it. I've got a pump on the parts car, and the diagram of the pump in Haynes book looks pretty simple. So.... I'm thinking I can just use the parts in the new but broken pump to rebuild the used one. Provided I'm careful, will I be able to pull the seals and re uses them? The diagram makes it look like I could pop out the shaft seal with a socket. I realize the seals are cheap, but if I can use what I've got that's better.
