some clutch replacing questions

Recommended Posts

so what all should be done when one does a clutch? I've got new bearings and clips coming, but what else. and whats the best way for one to do it when he does not have an engine hoist?

What he said. Also, to avoid any future problems with this part, clean up the quill that the TO bearing rides on using some sandpaper. Also, after helping Matt with the 5-speed swap this weekend, I have concluded that even without an engine hoist, it's way easier to pull the engine than drop the tranny on these cars.

what needs to be done to the flywheel? or can I just take it to the machine shop and tell them to machine it?

You don't always need to get it machined, but unless your gonna measure it, it would probably pay to.

You should be able to find a place that has experience machining flywheels, they'll know what to do. Its not hard, but it has to be done to the right specs or your in trouble.

I dont think that flywheel is going to be bad off. I didnt resurface my flywheel before my stage 2 install, and you know how hard I drove it.

After thinking things over and over and judging the avalible options, time contraints and all that good stuff.....I ended up dropping the tranny out of the RX for the clutch job. Took me 2 hours by myself.

you have to be 20 over there?

Dang indeed.

In the US you have to be 21 or older to drink/buy alcohol.

At least it's not like Canada though (19 is legal drinking age there) where even beer is sold only in the liquor store!

so you don't think I'll need to re-surface my flywheel. and dropping the tranny seems like a hugh PITA, but if I do it that way I'd like to replace the shifter bushing.

Too bad you're so far away. I could be bribed for 6pak o' beer and the experience! Good luck. Now, understand that I wouldn't want to live anywhere but the good ol' USA, but Ross is lucky in at least one respect. I have a friend who just came back from a 4 year stint at Christchurch and she loved it. She said that more often than not common sense stills carries some weight in the land of the Kiwi, instead of an ambulance chasing, money grubbing lawyer on every street corner pushing frivolous lawsuits that raise the price of everything and lower the value of a dollar.

????

I've had beer in plenty of bars in Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, and I've bought alcohol there as a 18 yr-old too.
