EGR valve

Recommended Posts

I got a vacuum leak on my Soobie on Monday. Today I found out it was the EGR valve. I called AutoZone, they can get it but they want $200 for it. I almost choked when they told me the price. I am going to the JY this weekend.

I took mine off and threw it away. (it did not work) Capped off the manifold where it was.

I am not saying this is good. My car SEEMS to run fine. This is not advice. If problems may be expected from doing this, I think others on the board more experienced than I will chime in? (hope so!)

I reinstalled it a couple months ago hoping it would somehow help my code 34 and CEL go away... it hasn't.

you must reset your computer for it to go away - they don't cycle out trouble codes

you should replace it - it should be about $5 at a JY - just be careful removing the vinyl tubes from the plastic as they tend to break - hope it goes well

I did.... plug both connectors together... drive a while, it'll either blink clean or come on. It came on again, with good 'ole 34. maybe I'll try it again tomorrow for kicks and giggles.

you mean the clear connectors?

I would pull the battery cable to be sure for about 15 min - sometimes these things are finicky - hope it is just a bad code refusing to clear, otherwise it is your valve

yea, followed the instructions in the FSM.

Can a bad valve really cause it to throw this code? I would think the only feedback would be in the solenoid itself. In any case, I'll take another look at it tomorrow then, Thanks.
