fatmink
I've been looking all over for a 99 impreza obs and finally found 1 at a local subaru dealer. I test drove the car and found that the clutch slips in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears when you accelerate hard. They said they would check it out. It only has 60000 miles. Is this something I should expect with such low miles or was the original driver relentless when she shifted? Also, should it be replaced or might someone try to tell me it was an adjustment issue or some other excuse? I really want one of these cars but don't want to make a bad investment. Any advice? Thanks. Asking price is $10,900. , fatmink
Setright
You have to wonder how the car has been treated when the clutch is burned at such low mileage. I'd say stay away.
fatmink
I drove the car and other than the clutch it felt great. Gears shifted nice, engine was clean, couple of scratches on the body but other than that it was cool. Steering was par for the course. I've driven a bunch and they seem to feel the same. Are these cars known to have clutch problems? Also, any feelings about purchasing an extended warranty in general? Thanks. Fatmink
hikerwa
My wife and I have a 99 OBS wagon, after 40k, we had to replace the clutch, there are lots of subarus where the clutch fails prematurely. We don't drive like grandmas, but the clutch was not abused. We replaced ours and it feels even better than stock, we used an aftermarket clutch kit. fatmink
I haven't heard from the dealer yet. Hopefully they will just replace it and then sell it to me. Does 10,900 sound about right for the car with cruise, keyless entry, alarm and 60k?Thanks for the reply Fatmink
hikerwa
that's about right, location can influence the price, in Seattle where I live 10-11k is the average price, I have seen as high as 13k, if they replace the clutch you're good to go I would think.
