suba
I've got a 98 outback limited with an auto transmission. However, the transmission just went kaput so now I'm stuck with putting in a new one. I figure if i'm going to go through the trouble anyway I might as well go to a manual, if its not too much more trouble. How difficult of a swap is it? and how available are the transmissions? Thanks.
lmdew
Not tough, but time consuming. You have to deal with the ECU looking for the neutral switch, the cruise will need the clutch input, as well as the ignition circuit..... It can be done, but its not a plug and play. It depends a lot on if you want all of the safety inter locks to work or not. You will need the: Trans brake pedal box shifter rear trans cross member center counsel standard cover clutch master cyclinder and slave I'm sure there is more, If you have a car you can pull it from get everything thats conneted and then some and you will be OK
Legacy777
read my swap writeup www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap Granted I added awd, but that was relatively easy. There is a lot of components and things you need to take into consideration. It's not super difficult, but it is time consuming, and the challenge is keeping track of everything, and knowing exactly what to do. You will have more issues with electronics because it is OBD2.
