AKIRA
I'm thinking of getting some 185/80/SR13 tires on the stock wheels and I wanted to know if anybody knows if one of these will fit under the hood of an 84 Brat GL? would I need to cut the fenders? Qman
I don't think they'll fit. It may go but would probably need to be deflated. Sort of defeats the purpose of a spare. 185/70R13's barely fit. On another subject, I like your brushguard. I have the same and have only seen a couple complete ones. archemitis
they WILL fit under the hood, and under the fenders. just push when you put them under the hood... you gotta push hard... but they fit in mine
baccaruda
i keep my full size spare (mostly) deflated.. and i have a cigarette lighter powered inflator in the back of the wagon.
AKIRA
ok, thanks, I will probabaly get a 4' lift eventually, but I just wanted to know if they would fit untill that, thanks. It is a bushman brushguard, I got it brand new in the box for $25 when a relaitve of mine at kinely's Subaru found out I got a brat.

How much bigger in diameter is the 185/80 from the 175/70? I've got 175/70/13 snow tires on my XT and there is 3 inches of clearance behind the tire, and 4 inches above. I think there is a 2 inch lift due to the standard spring suspension conversion. John Wilke Milwaukee
AKIRA
175/70/R13 = 22.645 185/80/R13 = 24.653 thats why I want em!

I'm shopping for a clean, straight '80-'84 AWD Wagon. I don't want to lift it or cut the wheelwells unless/until I get into wheelin it. I'd also prefer to store the spare under the hood. That said, I'd like to maximize the ground clearance to the extent possible for those trips to the trailhead.
WagonsOnly
185 series tires are NOT going to fit in a turbo, there isn't enough clearance between the inside of the hood and the spare tire rest. (That's why EA82 turbos weren't offered with a full-size spare option and 185-series tires.) Otherwise I think you're all set.
electryc_monk
I beg to differ. But I'm running 185/70R13's currently and the tire fits nexxt to the turbo intake just fine.
calebz
Yeah.. it was my 185/75/14s that wouldn't fit under the hood.. thus the spare on the roof!
Dante
Thanks all--no turbo for me, so that is no problem. A couple more questions-- The 185/80/13 selection is pretty slim--can anyone recommend specific 185/80/13 tires? I am trying to buy some steel pug 14s or 15s to access a wider selection of tires. Will 14" pugs fit under the hood? What about 15s?

Both are tires I'd buy again. 80 or 85 are imho too narrow the 75 is as narrow as I'd suggest for this platform on 13 inch rims I tried to get 70's on one brand but they were out thus the 75's on one set of tires. The other is 70's
Dante
Hey, these Kumho ECSTA R700 rally tires look really cool. They come in 165/80QR13 (23.5" diameter, 6.7" section width and 5.5" tread width) and 195/70QR13 (23.9" diameter, 7.9" section width and 6.4" tread width) Cooper Weather Master S/T 2s look OK, too, and come in the right range of sizes. Nokian also has a few 13" tires that are a little taller than stock (e.g. Hakka 1s or the NRW, which would be good for my purposes)...
