MudisFun
So I'm trying to re-ring and re-seal my spare EA81 but can seem to separate the block. Yes, got all of the bolts. I started to use a cold cut and hammer on the front top, got it to move a little but just about popped a chunk off . Any tips an helpfull hints would be great! GLCraig
Do you have the pistons out yet? There is one bolt that is hidden behind the head gasket, are you sure you have it?
MudisFun
No I do not have the pistons out yet, I couldn't get the pins out. Do I need to do that before I take it apart?
GLCraig
That is how the book says to do it and that's how I've always done it. It might be possible to split the block part way then unbolt the caps from the connecting rods. The pistons should not be able to slide through the bottom of the cylinder bores. ShawnW
You can do it by splitting and then unbolting half of each rod but its a total pain and hard in your fingers. Get a 14MM hex head and take the access holes out and pull them out properly.
MudisFun
Got it! That's for the help, I went ahead split the block about five inches removed the lifters and caps then removed the pistons. I wasn't that hard after all.
