well, before i spend the big $ to buy lug nuts, cant i mount them using the plain subie acorns and just drive around the block and stuff, going over curbs and big speed bumps and stuff and see if they rub? wont the acorns hold for that long?

You should be fine for testing purposes. Bring a lug wrench and re-check them along the way if you're nervous about it.
