frag
You might find what you're looking for here :http://www.ghg.net/dharrison/obdscan.html Edit: A quick once over of the site seems to show that they have nothing for the Mac (only Windows and Palm). But you might give it a closer look. Good luck.

Seems like a very costly endevour. You would probably need a Developer to help you write the Software. If you did get a USB Interface the system would probably recognize it but I seriously doubt a Driver exists. Plan on writing one or having someone write one for you. When you say using it as a stereo, do you mean in place of a conventional receiver? If so then I will say this is just crazy talk. If not, and your are actually planning to use it as a Music Server or a Jukebox if you will, then you may have better luck with using an Ipod for your Music, considering that Alpine and Pioneer make an interface for them. The Alpine Interface is pretty sweet. But also another cool tool if you do use the Mini as a Music Server then you can use an an Apple Airport Express to pick up your signal wirelessly and then convert it into the correct impedance for an Amp. The good thing about the mini is you can use any Windows periperals. So you will have more options available. As far as the monitor and other peripherals go you might be able to put something together. The bad thing is that it will be quite costly to hook this up in a Car. You may also consider using a Ibook. I simply cannot figure out where you will put the monitor and stuff if you use a Mac Mini. Either way I would put Airport Card in it so you can justify this costly Mod. Maybe you can surf the Web at all those hotspots downtown and it will be good if you decide to use the Airport Express. Good luck if you do go through with it I would be happy to hear how well it goes. My recommendation is to not go through with it. Look at Alpines site and get a Huge Ipod. 40 or 60GB, then get the 420 Interface. Find out how to get the codes read with any operating system period and then let me know and I ma be able to help with you Mini Mac Idea. The more I think about this idea the more I am curious about how you intend to pull this off. Consider that I have never owned a Car newer than 96. But I dont know how you fit all of this into a Subaru. If you want it to control your Music and Pull Codes I think this idea is not going to work at all. I dont want to be rude, I just dont understand, so I guess more info is needed before I can say whether or not I can help with this one.
