silverider
Hi all, I have enjoyed reading about your cars and experiences. My urabus is a '86GL-dr5spd wagon 264k mi. daily driver, but she's getting tired. I live in the SE part of the Olympics in Washington. This car just seems to fit me and my needs, but I am going to have to come up with an economical plan soon and start moving towards being ready. The guy I take her to keeps asking me "how many miles on her now": read: when are you going to take my advice and get a newer model. I just braved a trail though rebuilding the Hitahci 2bbl. There are still many things I do not know about keeping this car on the road. Which is why the mechanic keeps getting the opertunity to work on it. I am greatful that he is availible, but I want to ween myself of that reliance. My other cars(none new than '77 detroit stuff) never seem to give me a case of stupid like my beloved little wagon. I have got a couple of manuals now(still do not have the fsm set yet). I have read a few bits about converting to a EJ22 motor. Is this the perfered newer transplant to focus on. Any thoughts about CCR engines out of Colorado? Then I would jut go with the stock refit and maybe a Weber carb. No smog testing here yet... Thanks to all, Mike silverider@aol.com

Phizinza
Welcome! The EJ22 convertion seems harder to me then every one says, mainly because of the wiring loom. I'm not sure about newer subies, but I think there all the same when it comes to reliability. Maybe its just time to find another one with less miles on it. Anyway, just surf around and you'll learn too much to remember. Only one Subaru, how is that possible....... lol... it is, but I don't have a job as such yet so we'll be expecting more:grin:!
