CEL appears on Rainy Days

Featured Replies

During the past few week, everytime it rained and the car sat overnight, when the car started, the engine would idle rough, the CEL would come on and blink for a minute and then turn steady. As soon as it turns steady, the idle smooths out and everything runs as it should. If I disconnect the battery to clear the code, the car starts normally. Then it will stay that way until the next rainy day.

Any thoughts? I just had the car inspected today and it passed both safety and emmissions.

Thanx,

Pete

Need to have the code more than anything. I suspect its 02 sensor as they get wet and act funky but guessing is a waste of time.

ODBII cars, borrow a scanner or go to Autozone to have the code pulled. Thats 95 and newer for the most part.

ODBI cars, 94 and earlier, plug the 2 green connectors under the dash with the key in the off position, then turn the key to ON (not start) and count the morse code flashes that appear on the Check Engine light. long pauses first, then short. 3 long, 2 short is 32, etc.
