Roundeye Posted April 30, 2005 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Tonight, on the way to the bar , my 1987 GL Wagon (S/R 4WD) rolled 110,000 miles on the clock. At the same instant the "EGR" light came on. Haynes and Chiltons mentions nothing of this and does not even show that circuit in the wiring diagrams. My factory owners manual mentions that the EGR warning light is used on 4WD Federal Emissions-equipped cars. It only says that if it comes on, have it checked at your local authorized Subaru dealer :-\ . (Yea right....I'll be right there.) So, how do I turn this light off? (besides drilling a small hole in the lens and assaulting the bulb with a pick ) Second, how does this warning circuit work? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Flowmastered87GL Posted April 30, 2005 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Its activated by a timer or sorts... you are correct in assuming that the odometer triggered it. Funny... I've had my car for 100K and its never gone off... up to 316K and never had a light of any kind. Anyway under the drivers kick panel there are supposed to be like 3 connectors. Either 1 male and 2 female OR 2 male and 1 female. Basically I know one is green, the other is either blue or white, I forget which. Anyway basically make the connector swap partners If its green-green make it green-blue (or white). If its the other way, switch it TO green-green. Also, whats wierd is my owners manual says that the light will come on each 60,000 miles. Mine came on at 110,000. Go figure. Should be 60k, 120k, 180k...etc.... Strange. MilesFox Posted April 30, 2005 Share Posted April 30, 2005 yo in the midst of frankenswapping clusters for at to 5spd converted soobs, i decided to swap the prndl out for the 4wd in the middle of the cluster. one was from an 87 carb and the other from an 89 turbo. the 87's had an extra wire in back so i opened it up to check it out. i found a swotch inside the odometer that looks to trip every so many miles. so if yours is on the switch triggered it as a reminder rather than something just went out couldnt tell you how to clear the code off hand check the usrm>miscellaneous> ecu codes or the haynes book chapter 6-4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
