vince meyer
I'm looking for recommendations for a scanner to use with my 1997 Legacy Outback's OBD-2 self diagnosis system. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Also any information relating to cost and where to purchase would be helpful. Anyone have a used one they would like to sell? frag
I'm very happy with this one. It's a software you install on a laptop or Palm. It not only reads codes but gives realtime output of most of the sensors. http://www.ghg.net/dharrison/obdscan.html
Olnick
I picked up an Actron 9135 a coupla' months ago and am very pleased with it, decided on the Actron because it was recommended by an indie shop owner whose opinion I respect (Dan Maurin at ROOpair Specialties in Tacoma.) It won't do the real-time stuff that Frag mentions but it's been right on for me. Bought it off eBay after several months of lurking and tracking (I'm a very careful shopper!!!) Paid about $80 plus shipping. If you do go eBay just read the seller's feedback carefully--there are some weird ones out there. Good luck.
BigMattyD
I bought an Equus 3100 OBDII code reader. It is very easy to use, and it's available online or in auto stores. It is great if you just want to read or clear the codes. It will not monitor sensors, etc. Matt
