godwine
Got a 99 Legacy GT with the 2.5 engine. The engine vibtates when rev to between 1800-3100 RPM.. The mechanic at Subaru said its normal and its a common problem with these 2.5 engines... he said it has something to do with the EGR valve.. is this true? can this be fixed? gbhrps
godwine, I'm no expert, but my last 97 OBW had the dohc 2.5 and 139 000 km when I traded it on my 02 OBW with a sohc 2.5 which has 94 000 km, and neither one has the vibrations your dealership says is normal. You have a bad motor mount, harmonic balancer (if the car has one, as I said I'm no mechanic), or a miss in that rpm range. My advice would be to take the car to another dealer and get another opinion. I think your dealership is brushing you off, because they're stumped. ShawnW
Make sure the crank pulley is tight. It should be 120 foot pounds, not 80 like most manuals say. this will cause vibration and is very common.
godwine
Thanks for the reply. I think the engine mount may be the one at fault, but then shouldn't that cause a vibration regardless of the RPM? I think i will bring it back to another dealership to see whats wrong with it. Thanks
godwine
ooh ok.. hmm.. so when you said its "common" does the RPM that I reported (around 2XXX - 3XXX) sounds right?
