pmichaud
New plugs , wires , cap rotor, accell coil.....rna great all winter, now, sometimes, mostly when cold, mostly at lower rpms, when giving gas it bucks, almost dies out, ( doesn't stall) feels like someone turned the key off! let off the gas, slowly gte back into it, and it goes...all the way to 5000 rpm.... Fuel filter? Belts? Thanks, Paul
bigjim5551212
Sounds like the pump jet in the carb is not working. Look down the barrel when the engine is off. open the throttle and you should see gas squirting in the barrel. If not, then then pump circuit is plugged. [HTi]Johnson
Replace the fuel filters. Both of them One in the engine bay and one in front of the rear passenger tire, next to the fuel pump. And when you want him to check the jet....the car has to be on but not running. So the fuel pump is running, right?
ausubaru92
I only have one fuel filter, near the fuel tank:-\ I was under the impression that the fuel pump only runs when the engine is running, via the engine revolution sensor, to stop fuel flow in say,.. a crash. And the accelerator pump draws fuel from the fuel bowl, so u wont need the ignition on I vote on the Fuel Filter Hope this helps:brow:
Brumby Boy
I agree with everyone check your jets and replace your fuel filters also get some subaru upper engine cleaner and fill up the throte of the carb with it then start your car and while at idle spray the rest of the tin in. becarefull with the subie clean its verrrry potant stuff, hell yeah thats my 2 cents
pmichaud
Of course I had the fuel filter in stock in my garage.....it helped but not completely.... accelerator pump draws from bowl, correct, I observed a "dribble" not a squirt..kind of like it needs the roto rooter treatment if you know what I mean.... I guess after 18 years the carb needs some cleaning and rebuilding...... is the weber hard to do? Can I cheat and leave it on the car and just clean it out, change the top gaskets/ accel pump??? 85Sub4WD
your deductions about the accelerator pump are correct Hitachis are a b&$@* to work on - I would do the weber conversion IF I was to replace the carb that said - SeaFoam or something similar in the gas may solve your problem - squirting carb choke cleaner on the offending part may help too
