regularman
I am in the beginning of an engine swap. I am removing a totally hosed up turbo ea82 and replacing it with a carb model EA81. I have heard this can be done and would appreciate an info that ya'll can give me. I will be taking out the ea82 wednesday night.
MilesFox
is the car carb or spfi? either way just hook up the coil to the distributor as it would be. since the coil is opposite on the ea81 you will have to lengthen the wires or relocate the coil what tranny does the recipient car have? the ea81 motor's flywheel bolts are smaller, but you can bolt on the ea82 flywheel as it will center on the crank snout. you will have to grind the bottom corners of the bellhousing away so it will clear the flywheel teeth the motor mounts will line up the same and they are also interchangeable the ea82 intake/car assembly will also fit on the ea81, the egr and distributer will be a close fit around it connect everything else the same as it would be

It overheated and has been put back together about 3 times since and I am pulling the ea81 out of an 82 GL wagon (4 speed). I'm thinking since the RX is MPFI, that the intakes won't swap. I will have both motors to look at and see. It would be nice to keep the intake all original and just use the carb shortblock. Can this be done?
