Guest jclay
Hi all, The horn on my 97 legacy wgn (2.2) is rather wussy sounding, and I'd like to swap it with either the (less wussy)horn on my 94 legacy wgn (soon to be a charitable donation) or a good aftermarket horn. Without having looked at anything, it seems as though it would be a fairly straightforward swap, is there anything I should be aware of? Also, where exactly are these horns located? and has anyone had any luck finding a good aftermarket, manly sounding horn for their legacy? Thanks in advance! mattocs
In my 96 OBW 2.2L the horn is on the passanger side of the engine...under the airbox. I hear Hella Supertones are sweet...i've yet to hear them
outback_97
I've had very good luck with FIAMM freeway blasters. You can find them pretty cheap at Harbor Freight. You buy one high tone and one low tone for a nice combination that will get people's attention. Here's a link: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=44760 I have two of them in my OB, and installing these was the first thing I did to my wife's TS after she almost got run off the road. The stock horns are indeed wimpy. These are very easy to install and typically bolt right up with very little wiring or modification required. Sometimes you have to be a bit creative in placement and bend the mounting brackets as they are a bit larger than the stock disc horn. hklaine
Yes, behind the passenger headlight. If you install some aftermarket, or higher output, horns you may consider wiring them with a relay instead of directly to the stock wiring (comparably weak to the stock horns). I did this and installed some SuperTones. They sound great! Do a search on the forum and you will find PLENTY of horn talk. -Heikki
