95 legacy LSi wagon w/ oem radio+tape+panasonic P512 cd player (as printed on faceplate).

player sucked in the cd and died. player shows no sign of life.

1 - is there a manual means to eject disc without taking cd player out of dash?

2 - after removing player, does anyone know if there is a manual means to eject the cd?

3 - is this a mechanical or electrical issue? (my bet is mechanical).

fyi - player is trayless, ie, cd slides in. player had been acting up mechanically.

thanks

No specific information from me. But, ...

If all else fails, take the car/CD player to a place that installs stereos, and they can either tell you how to do it or will do it for you.

In general, most CD players have a little hole that you either poke with a pin/paperclip, or use a small-bladed screwdriver to crank out the mechanism.

The one experience I had with CDs not ejecting was caused by the thickness of the disk apparently being greater than what the player was designed to handle. (Thicknesses do vary.)

When my aftermarket cd player died way back when, I called the company that made it and asked what to do. I had to take it out of the dash and touch a couple of wires to my battery to eject it (purple and gray?). Anyhow, yes, you can most likley get the CD back without destroying the unit, but you will probably most definately have to remove the unit from the dash.

Some players have the little hole already mentioned that you stich the end of a paper clip in and push, which mechanically ejects the CD.

If your CD player is dead and you can deal with tapes for a bit, keep your eye open for eBay deals. My 95 LSi wagon came with the 6 CD changer from the factory, but when I bought it last year someone had stripped out the changer. I bought a brand new Subaru changer still in the box for $12 off eBay! (The seller had listed it with "changer" spelled wrong.) But I've still seen several good deals. Apparently lots of guys rip out the factory players and install the top tech stuff. Something that plugs into a factory Subaru unit is only of interest to Subaru owners, so the price on auctions is on the side of the buyers...

the aftermarket one i had awhile back.i just opened up the radio.

in my case it didn't matter if i damaged it cause i had lost the face for it an it would have cost more for a new face then it did for a completly new radio :-\

thanks all for the suggestions. finally had to take the radio+player out of the dash. the online service manual was invaluable for removing the front panel and radio.

the cd player did not have the ubiquitous "hole" for manual eject. i had to

disassemble the player and monkey with the numerous mechanical actuators to coax the cd out.

even though i was pretty careful, i dont think the player is fit for continued use. so, im probably going to rig a preamp with an audio plug for my mp3 player.
