bhamxt
Hey everyone, i have got a problem that maybe you could help me figure out. I just installed and intercooler and manual boost controller on my 86 xt turbo. I turned the boost to 9-10 and I gave it a try. The thing is way faster but quickly I ran into a problem. When I give it a lot of gas and it reaches full boost after a second of fast acceleration the power suddenly cuts out, feels like a major hose was blown off or something, but then it returns to idle and is completely normal, no loose hose fittings. Boost gauge and air/fuel gauge read nothing out of the ordinary. Am I somehow reaching the fuel cut limit? I know people are running more boost than this without problems, any ideas? thanks a lot
Skip
you hit fuel cut at any boost pressure over factory it may be altitude adjusted and maybe your boost gage is a pound off or so. You could try a voltage clamp on the MAF signal wire
calebz
85-86 EA82ts have the vane style AFM and a boost cut switch. Look on the passenger side, in front of the strut tower, Thats where the switch is on the rest of the 85-86 EA82T cars. THere should be two switches there. One controls the turbo light, the other should be the fuel cut/overboost switch. Unplug the hose from there and plug the end of the hose with something. Cougar
Right you are Caleb shame on me and my lame brain Sorry Skip, You have far too many correct and helpful answers to posts to accept that title. So, is doing all modification to the turbo a quick way to blow out the engine but have fun doing it?
WJM
So, is doing all modification to the turbo a quick way to blow out the engine but have fun doing it? No. Absolutely not. If done correctly, it will last just as long as stock if not longer.
