NorthWolf
I have a friend who would like the Icthus (fish symbol) from my car. I really want to take it off. It came with the car, and no...it's not a magnet. Is there a way to get it off without damaging the paint below? My idea was to use a hair dryer to heat up that area and see if the glue will melt a little and allow me to peel it off that way. I don't know how well that will work. Please help! Thank you very much in advance.
gbhrps
NorthWolf, You're on the right track! The hair drier should do the trick without burning your paint like a heat gun might. Use a putty knife to pry it off, just check that the putty knife has no gouges that could scratch your paint. Either use Goo Be Gone to lift the rest of the adhesive left behind, or Varsol should give good results as well. Good luck!
mtsmiths
You could pray? You're on the right track. Heat it then saw it off with dental floss. GooGone, Simple Green, a wet Bounce sheet, or even WD40 will take off the glue residue.

Never done this, but have often heard of the dental floss (or fishing line) trick. -Heikki
NorthWolf
WOW! I just took some dental floss out there and sawed under it. It came right off and after that I just used my thumbnail to scrape away the remaining residue. It was a two-minute job and I didn't ruin either the fish or the car. Thanks again, guys!! brus brother
MT, don't jump to conclusions. Proposed curriculum changes from would have us believe that whole Darwin thing, probably as well as the entire 20th Century is just a theory. God Bless you. Now, you can put a DarwinFish on if you want.
99obw
Being just a theory isn't so bad, ever heard of the Theory of Relativity?
Setright
Darwin's theory is not complete. There some holes in it. Those are the ones the people blinded by faith like to point out. Most of the holes are just gaps in time, since we don't have traces of all the species that ever lived on this planet. Personally, I find it likely that a collective devine energy binds us all together, but that has never stopped us from developing along the lines of Darwin's natural selection. brus brother
Speaking of "Relativity", looking around at some of my relatives, I can see the phylogeny and behavioral similarities to the apes. If on the other hand, you choose the path of divine inspiration and you examine the collective mankind, you gotta wonder that at times, God was likely an underachiever. BTW, my original comments were gleaned from Borowitzreport.com and a satirical look at the Kansas school system removing Darwin and company from the texts. Addendum: Unfortunately unlike those with FWD, for the AWD owner, when we reach the end of the earth, the rear wheels will propel us over the edge and into the abyss. See ya there! Tiny Clark
Sometimes people who don't have faith are blinded by it right before they die... No, I'm not holding up a John 3:16 sign, but Darwin may have found a patch of cannibas on the Galapagos islands.
northguy
Now that you have it off, braze a treble hook to its mouth and tie on a piece of stout monofilament that can run into the trunk. It'll look cool when remounted.

Mike_N_Austin
I have a hard time understanding how I am supposed to believe evolution. It's core foundational principle is that we have all evolved from lesser species. If this were the case...then why can't we have cross breeding across separate species. Why can't a man (or woman) mate with an APE and concieve a "missing link". Am I really supposed to believe that every missing link simply dissapeared ? Wouldn't some of them have survived. Talk about faith.
firstwagon
I still lean towards the alien colony ships as being the start of mankind. That way I can believe my great-great-great grandfather was a Jedi Knight. You may think it sounds silly but it keeps me amused while I sit here at work bored out of my skull. SuBrat84
Why can't a man (or woman) mate with an APE and concieve a "missing link". Well. I think if you're going to give this a try your best bet would be a chimpanzee. I believe these are the closest mammal to our genetic code. As far as evolution goes.. I think you just need to open your eyes. Look in a history book. Look how much we've evolved in the last 100 years. True, it may not be an apparent PHYSICAL evolution.. But, how many of you are taller than both of your parents..?(I am.) And, wouldn't you consider human beings getting more intelligent and more advanced a form of evolution? Also, another thing to consider... Where did all the species on earth come from if not from Evolution? They haven't always been here... and where did all the species go that we find remains of?? Granted we haven't found a "missing link" .. All I have to say about that is go do some research on *Critical Mass* or try to find a copy of "The Hundredth Monkey" ... I suggest doing research in stuff before you shun it. Just my $0.02. I dunno.. this might be worth $0.04... Thanks for reading.
SuBrat84
Ok ok, people, all i see here is a "religious" argument going on....since when did this site become that?? I mean, come on, the poor guy just wants to know how to get a stupid fish symbol off his car, i don't think he meant for people to start arguing in what belief is right or whatever. i don't mean to sound rude, but it shouldn't matter what you believe in, let people believe what they want, all be friends again, help eachother out with their Subaru problems, and just get over it. thank you. ~*~jess~*~
mtsmiths
I second! I would, in fact, like to contribute my two mites to the discussion ... however. I suggest we adjorn to the 'Off Topic' Forum, where this belongs. BTW, glad the dental floss trick worked. What did you use to clean off the adhesive (other than fingernail).
