Upgrade manual central locking system with a remote control

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I have an 1986 Subaru Leone with a manual central locking system (works if I lock the driver door with the key or the internal switch on the driver door). That works fine so far, but I really want a central locking system with a remote control.

So, how can I upgrade my central locking system with a remote control? Are there any how-to's out there? The solution should be cheap because I didn't have much money...

Unfortunately here in Germany there aren't many Leone's left and I don't find any infos about upgrading the system (at this point sorry for my bad english!). Any help would be great!! I would also do everything self-made if necessary.

Thanks in advance!!

Stefan

you can usually get an after market system for it, though most are remote start with keyless entry. im not possative about it but i believe most systems need an actuator to make it work on a older sooby, i had looked into it on 1 of the remote start with keyless entry systems i got kicking around and it told me that, basically i believe it is because the part of the system that tells the rest of the doors to lock in the drivers door is just something that you push down adn not something motorized.

Hm, that should be right, there is no actuator in the driver door. Wouldn't be logic, I think it's only a mechanical switch which locks the other doors.

So, I need another actuator then? Hm, this job could be done with an old one from another door I think.

Basically you need a door lock actuator for the drivers door only, you need to fab it all up so it pushes the linkage in the lock when you give it power. This will cause all the other doors to mimick the drivers door IF you have power locks like on my gl-10, if you have manual locks then you need a actuator for each door :( PITA

sounds about right steveman, you can probably modify up a power doorlock motor to do the job, not sure right offhand how you would go about it though since i havent tried it myself though but i imagine it can be done since i have rewired a power doorlock motor before to shave the handles off a vehicle before, and made the motor work the actual latch instead of the lock part
