Defroster??'s

Recommended Posts

Alrighty. My fan selections work fine 1-4. But when my defroster is on, no air ever blows out the top.

I know the defroster cycles during different engine load- so which vacuum line did I goof when I did my weber? Or, is there specific wiring for the defroster I coulda goofed?

The vacuum line for the climate controls come off the manifold if I remember right.

When you try another position like heater, bi-level or vent dose air come out of same place no matter which position you select? If so then you do have a vacuum problem.

Lets all play the "What kind of car is this game??"

It's your 1965 Chevy Malibu -- right??

ah sheesh

The vacuum operated heater control system works in conjunction with a vacuum resivour (sp?) which is the white canister on the shelf behind the pass strut tower. This canister also incorporates a check valve to prevent what you have happening from happening.

Craig is correct as usual, it is a direct intake manifold vacuum to the input side of this canister.

Jim, fine job of post stepping your doing there, replace your blower speed resistor, see Asavage's post on the subject.

The fan motor speeds are changed by different resistors in series with the fan motor leads. They are in the air duct near the motor. I think yours are behind the gloove box. The resistors usually open up after some time and the set needs to be changed out. Wires from the motor will go to the resistor pack.

You could also have a faulty switch causing this but chances are it is the resistors causing your problem.

Sooo.... turned out the vac cannister on the passenger side firewall was hooked up to an inactive vacuum port (the one that sits at 90* to the EGR, now capped off post weber install)

Runs full blast in defrost off the windsheild vents after having switched vac ports...

Skip, you'l be pleased to see that I've put my ride info in my signature lest I forget that detail again in the future.
