Harvester
I noticed sometimes when driving my Brat had a 'dead' spot where it seemed like it was not getting enough fuel or maybe too much fuel. It would almost die and I would have to press the accelerator to the floor to get it to power through. I decided today to clean and check the carb. When I sprayed carb cleaner into it I noticed a few seconds later that a small amount of the cleaner was leaking out under the bottom of the carb. After I started her up and drove her a bit I couldn't get the Brat to accelerate at all without completely putting the pedal to the floor. So I adjusted (tightened) the accelerator cable as much as I could. There is still too much play in the cable (according to the subaru manual I am referencing) Now It is a bit better, but I still have to press the pedal about halfway to the floor before I get any more power. I am going to replace the accelerator cable with a new one next weekend, as this one has probably never been replaced in the 21 years the Brat has existed. Since my carb is probably going to die soon I searched the forums and found out I can buy a Weber 32/36 DGEV and adapter plate to replace the Hitachi carb that's in it. I just have a few specific questions that I could not find answers for when I searched the board. (And yes I spent a good hour reading posts about the weber carbs) Do I only have to get an adapter plate? IE: http://www.carburetion.com/Weber/webernumber.asp?Kit_Nbr=99004.110 or do I have to also get an adapter KIT so that all the cables link up correctly? If so can someone give me a link to the Kit needed? What do I do with all the extra hoses going into the Subaru Air Cleaner? Just plug them off? Or does the weber filter have places for them? Does anyone have a picture of thier engine with the weber carb installed? That would help immensly. I found some good articles about the correct air filter to be able to close the hood, and how to tune the carb correctly. Thanks for those! Thanks in advance! - Harv 1984 Subaru Brat http://home.comcast.net/~reynolds303/brat/
