dragonwingsubaru
well after replaceing most of my seals of course one of the few i dont replace ends up pissing out oil. i hadnt bothered replaceing the oil pan gasket when i was doing my motor and of course now its pissing oil out over the exhaust now, looks like the cars on fire when i stop it. i know i should have done it especially since i was dragging the motor around a little bit on the oil pan, just didnt wanna do it since i had just done it 2 months ago. is there any way to do it with just jacking the motor up a bit, i really dont want to pull this motor out again if i can help it. pyromanic
I have not done this myself, but have read that your on the right track in jacking the engine up a bit. Have your tried retorqing those phillips head screws? It took me a while to figure out that I COULD get the right extra long phillips up throug the holes in the cross member to tighten even the back screws. Angle was a little of untill I got a jack under there. That helped. Got rid of the majority of leaks. On a side not, I remember not long ago, youd given up on that wagon. Got her running right yet? No luck selling her? Good luck with it, whatever you decide Pyro
subyrally
from what ive gathered, you need to lift the engine about 2-3 inches to get to the rear bolts for the oil pan. thats the problem i am having with my rx, it has started to leak from everywhere lately. i need to get new oil seals, but i already have my oil pan gasket waiting to go in the car. good luck fixing your leak. dragonwingsubaru
yeah pyro i have for the most part got it going right now, and as for when i had it for sale it was only 4 a couple days then put another post saying it wasnt anymore, the screws are about as tight as they are gonna go and thats was probably part of the problem, probably put them 2 tight and split the gasket somewheres, im just really not wanting to pull this whole engine out again if i can get away with it, ill try jacking it up in a day or 2 and see if i can get to it enough to work that way subyrally the annoying part for me is that i just put the motor back in a week ago after doing the crank, oil pump, and rear main seal in it so it is really frustrating that its pissing out oil now. i dont really have a big problem with a car leaking a little oil but when it makes the car a smoke cloud because of it thats when i want to definatly fix it
Bill90Loyale
The FSM calls for only 3.3 to 4 foot pounds torque for the oil pan bolts on the 90 loyale. So be careful. When I did mine, I put the car on my stands. Unbolted the two engine mount bolts. Put some wood blocks on my floor jack. Jacked engine up about two or three inches. Put shims in to hold engine up in that position. Removed floor jack. Took time removing the eighteen bolts. Jimmy pan off of oil pickup tube. It'll come off at the right angles. Don't force anything. Clean the mating surface on the engine very very well. Clean out your oil pan very very well. Take oil pan to your mechanic or friend with wire wheel. Remove all traces of old gasket from pan mating surface. Place new cork gasket on pan. Have fun figuring out which side up, sideways etc. Keep the faith, it'll fit. I used no gasket maker, sealant. Just cork. Use star pattern when tightening bolts. I just used sort of a firm solid stopping point approach. Tight with phillips head screwdriver. No leaks in two years so far. Go for it. dragonwingsubaru
thanks for the torque info bill, i think i really need to get a torque wrench soon since i have a real bad habit of overtightening stuff or breaking bolts. the old gasket shouldnt be anything to get off since its only 2 months old, sounds like a real good idea to snug it down with the phillips head instead might not overtighten it that way, hopefully ill get around to it in the next few days
