jxavierf
Ok, just got a reman. disty with vacuum advance, cap, rotor......but no dust cover. The instructions mention that "Optic Distributors are supplied without dust covers"......does this mean I do not need a dust cover? What is an Optic disty.....how do I know if I have one????? Its all for my 84 wagon GL 4x4 auto..... Thanks for you guidance...........
[HTi]Johnson
Optic disty's are used in EA82s with fuel injection...or is it strictly a turbo thing? . They are electronically advanced. And your's is vacuum advanced. The optic means there is a disc in there and has 360 slits in it, and on one side of it, there is an LED(Light emitting diode) and on the other side is a photo reactive cell(forgot the spiffy term) and it pretty much sends the light through the slits and the cell tells the computer "light-no light-light-no light" I believe that is for the crank posistion sensor. If you have a vacuum advance disty, I wouldn't worry about a dust cover. I have an optic disty with no cover...I've never seen covers on any optic disty....is that bad? EDIT: I don't know if they are used in EA81 turbos.
