I want to go with just the MS for now and add the EDIS in later if I can. Don't mean to hyjack the thread, I just want to learn more about this as well:D You just need any sort of 'trigger' so MS can calculate RPM and Timing if you are doing the spark side also. I am using a modified wheel and optical sensor inside the stock disty on the ER-27, and on the EF-12T I used a 7 pin HEI module in conjuction with the VR sensor.
