My Parents want to get the Forester

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering if anyone had any imput: pros/cons for the Forester, my parents are looking to get one and I very much prefer the Outback (just dont tell my Legacy that ^_~) but the main reason my mom wants it is cause she owns a SUV type thing now that has a tiny back windshield that she can barely see out of and the Forester has a big flat-ish one... any input would be helpful = ) thanks

Hey Honey!!! ;)

The new Outbacks are Sexy :brow:

The foresters are too... boxy and stuff, and not enough power! but you lose some gas milage...

I think your mom would be wicked cool driving around a WRX wagon

Get a used Forester, preferably a 2001. I was skeptical when my parents got one for me, but I've grown to love it. Do you have a lot of cargo to carry? If so, the Forester does the job. It has some good power, and the all-wheel-drive will definitely get you out of some jams. By all means, get the Forester, preferably a used one.

GO THE OUTBACK FOR SURE :headbang: THEY ROCK. The foresters are great but the new outbacks are huge and as comfertable as anything to drive i would buy a new Six speed six cylinder liberty sedan but i dont have the dollars and love my Brumby/Brat too much

Have them drive both, I have had both, currently a 2004 Forester. In 1998 when it came out, I asked myself, Who would ever...... Well I had a 2002 Forester and now a 2004. Be careful what you may say. (7 Subaru's since 1978)

I am Very happy with it. Even thought my previous Legacy wagons were great, The Forester turns out to handle better, more fun to drive, and with the taller rear, I can fit more in the back for Hauling.

For me the Forester turned out to be a Swan instead of an Ugly Duckling.

Few side notes...My 2002 5sp got 25mpg at best. Usually stayed at 20-22. (Real Bad Case of Piston Slap) The 2004's WORST (winter, oxygenated fuel) has been 25. It stays around 28-29. I did get 34 last year. Straight drive full tank from NJ, up the NYS Thruway to Buffalo at 65-68mph (Cruise on), Then immediately refilled. I was Really Surprised.

Also note, the JUST AVAILABLE 2006 Forester's are 5 CuFt SMALLER in the rear behind the seats. Subaru attributes this to the re-design. (as reported on their Website under new NEWS). Glad I got my 2004.

My $.02

Our '04 Forester is perfect for us, the power is more than adequate. Drive the larger models and make a U turn on a residential street, then do a parallel park, now do the same with a Forester and you'll buy it.

Hmm, from a more philsophical viewpoint: The Forester is a more honest design, pure in it's inspiration. The Outback is a jacked up Legacy.

I would choose a Legacy. But otherwise a Forester.

Well I have a 96 Legacy and my mom hates how little power it has, granted if she bought a 2005 or 2006 Legacy it would have more power but I dont think that she would, but I totally agree
