mcbrat
how hard to replace just acc pump/diaphram on gen1 hitachi carb? I have one that's doesn't want to give forth any fuel unless I mash it... off idle, it just want to die, until I mash it, then it's start spraying... with soob shut off, it is dripping fuel out of the primary nozzle, and the acc pump boot is torn, and looks like it's leaking... thoughts.... SUBARU3
It's very easy to replace. Just remove the top of the carb with the 5 or so screws and the front linkage. Now with that said, it may be clogged. Often you can fix these by sliding a very fine piece of wire, in and out through the jet orfice. Find a piece of electrical wire, thin, and unweave it, to get a nice piece of copper wire. Todd
Skip
Mick, As you have so many times in the past, I thought I would do a drawing of the accel pump to explain it's working. As with any piston pump there has to be intake and exhaust (output) valves. When checking the accel pump operation these and there respective seats must be examined for proper sealing. With this and Todd explanation I hope it helps some.
mcbrat
I rebuilt the top end of the one on the right, and on the left one I did a cleaning and moved the acc/pump from the other side since it was in better shape, and put a new gasket on it... same problem... I initially thought the one on the right was the badone, and now think it's the one on the left...
