Hey everybody...I have a '94 Subaru SVX LSi. Its a pretty good car...got it cheap. 3700 with not too high of miles on it. Its the typical pearl white with black top. Its pretty quick too. I dont really know what it is, but if you kinda...press the gas twice..its like some sort of mini boost, skips a gear or something, hell if I know.Umm..I took it out "rallying" one night on some dirt roads. Super fun..BUT...ruined it. When I bought it, there were Konig 16s on it...damn near brand new Dunlop(did I spell this right?) tires. I balded those down real nice. Eventually had to get all brand new tires and rims. Now I have Enkei 17s. I kinda wish I got the 18s now but oh well. So yea...ever since I did that, I think I screwed my tranny. Its not as fast as it used to be. =( I know Im a ********************* but...does anybody know anything I can do to 'fix' it? I really dont want to resort to buying a different car...cuz as you know...trannys are NOT cheap. Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated. thanx

On most Subie auto transmissions, if you press down the gas quickly, it will downshift quickly and hold gears longer to maximize acceleration. Maybe that's what you're thinking of? You could try resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting, letting it idle ten minutes w/o touching the gas, then drive it "aggressively" since the tranny learns from how you drive it. Apologies if that doesn't apply to the SVX auto tranny.

As far as being slower when you switched to 17's... what's the weight difference in the tires and rims? And are they exactly the same diameter? If they're a lot heavier (most 17" rims and tires are relative to 16's) then that could slow you down. And if they're a little bigger you lose some gearing and that could slow you down as well. 18's would be even worse in most cases.

Not sure what else to say.

Steve
