Tin Soldier
I need some help with figuring out my A/C. My a/c would come on then it would squeal and shut back off. I thought I had a bad belt so I changed it out and it didn't help. I then changed the compressor and recharged it with the help of a friend who is a mechanic (used cool guages and everything, not that generic recharge in a can). It worked while at his garage with the car idling. Charged it up air got cold all good. Now it starts up, squeals and shuts back off just like before. I have a brand new belt on there, but the noise seems to be the clutch on the ac compressor. How much is too much pressure on this? Is the R134 stuff not good for a sube compressor? I used R134 nd I also put some a/c oil in it. It really stinks to not have a/c on these 90+ 100% humidity days.
Cougar
Have you checked to see if the compressor clutch is getting the full 12 volts to it?
Tin Soldier
Have you checked to see if the compressor clutch is getting the full 12 volts to it? How would I check that? It almost acts like it has to much pressure. Is that possible?
Cougar
Use a voltmeter and measure the voltage to the magnetic clutch.
Tin Soldier
Use a voltmeter and measure the voltage to the magnetic clutch. Ok, I will check that. If I turn the key on and then run the throttle the clutch will engage and disengage like it's supposed if the RPM's get to high. I will check the volts tonite and see what happens.
