kingwill
I've been to two yards that used to be my favorite to scout for nice parts and check out if I could mod something. Anyway both these yard will no longer let you walk around the yard anymore! I asked them why and they stated that it was too much a hasel and the cars were getting damaged. Duh it's where wrecked cars go to die. Is this comon now? are we as the customer nolonger aloud to walk into the grounds of a wrecking yard anymore? Sounds like this is the way the Man! sticks us with high price parts because they have to go get them, and you have to pay for there labor. TheSubaruJunkie
The junkyards here charge you $2 to enter. Regardless if you buy anything or not. They'd be stupid to turn people away. How are you supposed to check for the part you want, if they wont let you enter. Tell them, you are looking for an oil pump -Brian
lastchance
Are you talking about the U-Pull-It that was at 5 corners??? And that random yard out in Battle Ground, past Daybreak Park??? It's a joke...I hate not being able to wander around and check things out.

Seahag1978
It's the way of the world here. We do have 2 small yards that let us in to scout... no old Subies... mostly newer American models. I just heard of another yard about 1/2 hour from here that sounds promising for scouting But usually, when I call for a part, the standard answer is that the car was crushed "last week" I do have another possible yard about 1 1/2 hours from here that is clearing out and supposedly hasn't found the 2 or 3 '83 Brats up in the far corner yet...the owner of the yard swears they're up there, but the guy I have been dealing with isn't sure... he said they are old stock numbers, so surface rust means rotted at this point in time... I thought they were in the business of selling used parts? Silly me.
breaffyaviation
They no longer call themselves junkyards. You now pay to visit a Recycling Center. Jude

ballitch
dont bother going to the salem JY, there all "wait in the lobby" places, the one in turner however, i go to often, they got a 1980something XT-6 fulltime 4WD in the last week or so, any parts, including motor are still there, but its auto tranny. ~Josh~

RickOregon
Man, I'm sure glad I don't live in the big city... you can't go into your junk yards now? That really sucks. Out here in Burns, life is still pretty good. You might even call it a life of luxury. Hey, at our local yard, not only can you still go back and "touch the cars", but the owner drives you around from car to car in his beater-of-the-day. Your own private chauffeur... Now that's living! 8-) -Rick
SuBrat84
You guys got it bad. Down here in Tucson.. the worst yard I've been to the guy escorts you around in the beater of the day.. and just sits in it and watches you. Hardcore about not letting you have fuses unless u pay for them. Most the yards down here will let you walk around.. a couple of yards the people will follow you and keep an eye on you.. a couple yards you can't bring your tools until you know what you need. There is two official U-Pulls. And only one of them (the good one, anyone need motors?) charges $1 per person to get into the yard. That is where I got my $420 dollar XT6 Fulltime w/ Push Button Diff.. and all it needs is a fuel pump, front cv's, a tune up, and some good tires. Oh, and this: Piece of trim I would like to have. Roundeye
All but one in this area still let you look around (free). The one that will not let you pull your own parts or even look around can kiss my white hairy @zz:D I'll push my car into the river before I rely some numbnutz to charge me for pulling what he thinks is the right part for my car. As far as I see it, any J/Y owner that wants to charge admission to look at JUNK cars can crawl into the next one he crushes!

NorthWet
There is a yard near me with between 50-100 Subarus, pretty much a single-Make yard. But you can't go into it; the owner says it is because his insurer put the kabosh on it. With the exception of engine and trannies, he says his prices are based on how difficult it is to pull the part. Subarus as far as the eye can see... as long as you are on tippie toes and looking over the fence! AARRGGHHH!!!!
kingwill
miles and miles of subaru's you can't even touch, that are screamming Parts!!! Where do you live ..........HELL!!!!!! I think I've seen that yard with soob's only, but they never seem to have the parts I need, all the cars the new gen cars with fiberglass parts and plastic. Is there a list somewhere we could find, that lets us know if the yard lets you go in there or wait in the lobby. Insted of driving the distance to some out of the way place to find out they have no clue what you are talking about or have the correct part you looking for. And sometimes I have no clue myself what the part is by the name but I do by sight. How are these new jy helpping us here.
