Bill90Loyale
have already run seafoam in gas tank.... I like the excessive carbon theory. If it were my car, I'd do at least two Seafoam treatments of four or five ounces per treatment, fed directly into the intake manifold via the PCV hose. Follow instructions on can. Blast as much of that carbon buildup as you can. This approach, and new oil pump, reduced my pinging/tod issues to practically nil.
starkiller
interesting stuff to report...replaced the temp sensor...that seemed to help the pinging a bit and now the temp gauge reads half way most of the time rather then 1/4 way before i changed it....hmmmm....also, found a maf and installed this evening and will see what happens tomorrow on the way to and from work... thanx for all the tips everyone...need to get this fixed for my commute and in case i sell it so i can get that deal on the two xt6's..... Ross
If the TPS is underreporting the throttle opening, the ECU could think that the engine is not under as much load as it really is. The spark plugs should be right; he is almost certainly running NGKs which have a wider heat range to begin with, plus this doesn't seem to be load dependent. Part throttle is not a guarantee of a normally lean mixture, and neither is low engine speed. Depends too much on how the ECU was programmed. Agreed, but my main point was that no matter how lean the mixture gets, it should never cause detonation at low throttle.
