PoorManzImpreza
*potential hijack, but almost on topic* So while we're on the topic of pondering ea81 parts in ea82 engines has anyone considered carbed ea81 pistons in ea82T?..same bore/stroke..8.7:1 compression..seems mighty boost friendly..and lord knows that extra point in compression we could use..think they are strong enough? do ea81 rods have 2 be used? *end potential hijack*

WJM
heck yes. I'll NOT be using anything EA81/82 pistons...unless its the stock 'gen 3' turbo pistons. My thoughts are on those head studs. The bolt pattern is the same. I need to pull some studs out and see if the threads and such are the same as the EA82 (which me thinks they are) and make sure the length is sufficient for the EA82 heads... Guest shadow
Yes the bolt pattern and thread pitch is identical, but they are slightly too short for the 'short' EA82 locations and waay too short for the 'long' locations. The washers and nuts can be used on EA82 head studs if you want to save a few dollars, you will need one full set + 4 to do a complete EA82 from an EA81. NorthWet
here's some clean pics Shiiiii-neeeeee!!!! Those pics don't look anything like the 2 high-mileage, never-been-cleaned EA81s that I have been working with for 2 days. I am not sure if mine have had the shiney worn off or just covered up. But at least neither of mine look like Brian's.... ...yet.
