Ignition woes

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a drivable 81 4x4, 4spd d/r wagon as a parts car. The ignition switch is out of the dash and requires a screw driver to start it. On the way home after buying it it died. While trying to restart I could not keep the white plastic spring loaded part of the switch in th "ON" position. I unplugged the the switch from the red connnector to fiddle with it. I think I plugged it in backwards tried to start it and heard sizzeling. I found a blown fuse for the Ignition, replaced it but no juice when the switch is turned on. Tried jumping the terminals on the red connector with no luck, could get the starter to turn over by jumping it but there was no spark at the disty. What did I fry???? The great wisdom of the USMB is always appreciated

i suspect your ignition switch is shot. similar thing with my brat. no spark/electrical whatsoever. replaced switch and life is good once again. new will run you about 40 bucks but a j/y switch should run about 5 to 10.
