Gas gauge dosnt work

Featured Replies

The gas gauge on my 98 forester isnt working. This is causing the check engine light to come on. Is there any way to fix the problem without removing the gas tank. My best friend is a mechanic so i have access to a bunch of tools and a lift if I need it.

I know its not a big deal but I would like the gauge to work.

I don't think this problem can cause an error code in the ECU. I would check the connections to the sensor in the tank to see if you can find a problem there. If that is ok then I would check the resistance of the sensor with the connector removed to see how things looked before opening up the tank. You can find the access panels behind the rear seat under the carpet. The problem may also be in the wiring to the sensor or the gauge itself. Usually the sensor is the most common source of these types of problems.
