sneeky vacuum leak

Recommended Posts

ive become aware that i have a vacuum leak. im getting 11-12 in/hg at idle. i guess its been there for while, just didnt really notice it. the car idles kinda funny, seems like theres no low end at all. it wont stall at idle. i tried to look over the hoses as best i could, but i didnt see anything out of order. i sprayed some carb cleaner, that didnt do anything but make my engine bay a fire hazard :-\. i think my next step will be to try to blow some compressed air into the intake, and spray some soapy water on the engine bay and look for bubbles if i cant find the leak with suggestions here.

are there any spots where i should look in peticular for leaks?

Did you check the intake manifold gaskets for a leak? If that is ok you could try disconnecting hoses and plug the port while watching the vacuum gauge for a increase in vacuum to try to find the path the leak is on. If you have a automatic tranny the modulator may be leaking.

i cant find this freakin thing... :banghead: i took off the 4wd plenum, looked in there and the TB, nothing out of place there. i replaced the AAV hose because it looked kinda nasty, that didnt do anything. clamped everything back up tight... still reads 11-12" of vac on the boost gauge...
