my3sonsnc
I just purchased my 5th Subaru, a 1998 Legacy Outback with the upgraded security system. However the remote was lost. How can I deactivate the system? The link at cars101.com says that it is for lost remotes, but the directions it supplies require a remote to be present! Please help ASAP, as the alarm goes off for a LONG time! Thanks
lmdew
Look in the owners manual if you have it. If not, with the key on, push the reset button under the dash. Its about 3/8" dia, with a 1/8 pin to push. Mine was just fwd of the lower dash panel in the outside corner.

twohughs
I'm not sure how to post a question for a 1998 Legacy (not Outback) Remote: I can't find the programing button under the dash. I went to the 101 site and still can't recognize what I am looking for. Is there a better picture of the programing button somewhere? Thanks twohughs
lmdew
The installer can put them anywhere! Find the auto lock box, black tied up under the dash somewhere. Off of it will be small brown wires, follow them to the small button, 1/8 dia or so. Its the switch.
