Featured Replies

when setting timming marks, which marks do you set the pointer at ? , i cranked the motor by hand , and turned it to A and left it there , i do not mean when turning the dist that is .8 , what mark is top dead center ?this is on a 84 brat with a weber ,thanks

There should be a 0 (zero) mark, that will be top dead center.

set top dead center, set timming to .8 , major back firing , surging , so i bumped up timming to .12 , alittle less backing firing , if i really get on the gas is when it back fires , what should i look at next ?

Nothing chiseled in stone here, but I'll see if I can make it down this weekend. I'll let you know....

no big deal, when ever you take your grandson back ,stop on by

The three hash marks on your flywheel are for aligning (timing) the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft.

The degrees marked on the flywheel are for aligning (timing) the distributor to the camshaft + crankshaft + piston = ignition timing. Thats why ignition timing is so hard to get right :(

What was the situation prior to this problem with the backfireing and poor running? Was the dist. pulled, reinstalled, and now this issue?

the weber was not hooked up at all, and the vacuum lines were crossed , oil was going into the weber, , but it was running fine , i decided to change coils and go with a acell coil and this is how it all started
