SakoTGrimes Posted July 14, 2005 Share Posted July 14, 2005 I need a new clutch, it's mushy. Northwest Automotive who specializes in Subaru quoted me at $400. This includes new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, and a new rear seal (transmission?) He said he would use genuine new Subaru parts. Sounds like an OK deal to me. Opinions? hatchsub Posted July 14, 2005 Share Posted July 14, 2005 sounds real good to me. About two weeks ago i had my shop replace my rear main seal because it was leaking all over the place. Does it make it easier somehow to undo the motor mounts?? I got paid $120 bux to do a clutch job on an 88 rx.. i think they paid about $130 for the clutch kit.. came with an alignment tool. $400 is a good deal I think to have a shop do it for you.. because then it has some kind of warranty right? jeffroid Posted July 15, 2005 Share Posted July 15, 2005 That doesn't sound like too bad of a deal if you absolutely can't do it yourself, but swapping a clutch is fairly easy. I just did one a few weeks ago without pulling the engine. It took me a lot longer than two hours, but I got it done after work one day plus an hour or so the next. It's a lot easier if you have a buddy to help too. The question I would have is what do you mean by mushy? I wouldn't replace a clutch until it started slipping. Humble Nuto 53 Posted July 15, 2005 Share Posted July 15, 2005 nope didnt pull the transmission... i find it easier to pull the motor than the transmission in cases where one has the option. if youre not someone who actually enjoys "taking the dive" then i would go with the mechanic's quote. I had the only vehicle working that day that had enough room to carry it all. And everybody there knew I towed a truck up a hill so they knew my car could do it.... but my clutch is all to ************ now.
