New fuel injector upgrades!!

Recommended Posts

After doing some research I came upon a company that specializes in "made to order" injectors. They said that with a donated injector they can build injectors to meet any auto need. I dont know about the prices yet, but if someone else wants to call their site is here: http://www.rceng.com/Default.htm

Their name is RC Engineering, and they produce injectors for many of todays top tuner racing teams. Being that ours is a standard top fed bosh design, I think tghey could make one pretty easily for us.

Ill call and see if they can duplicate something. I need to know what stock cc ours flow at and what would be suitable for say 15 psi of boost. I am thinking about 240cc. Give me your feed back and maybe we can get a group buy going.

Taken off of their site:

"We can provide injectors in any format, any type of mounting or fuel rail configuration. These include hose end, large o - ring American / European fuel rail, small o - ring Japanese fuel rail and custom additional controller units."

It apperas that a 225cc injector would be around $90 a peice. That really isnt to bad.

The link was dead for me but if this is the RC Engineering in Lake Havasu, AZ- they are a bunch of idiots. I worked in another shop in Lake Havasu and we got a lot of their pissed-off customers who wanted us to fix their mistakes. Just a little heads up, if it's the Lake Havasu shop I would steer clear.

They are in CA.

They can make any size injector you want.

Our injectors are only metered by fuel pressure and the impulse in which they are opened and closed by the ECM. Really all the injectors purpose is, is to just atomise the fuel. The opening and closing of the solidnoid on top of the injector is what meters it. If you raise the fuel pressure you will get more fuel when combined with an adjustable FPR.

If you get bigger injectors, you will need more fuel pressure, and bigger fuel rails to carry it there(see 3/16" or 1/4" brake lines for the fuel rails). The ECM doesnt know how much fuel is going in to the cylinder, it is just programed to open the injector for a set amount of time based on throttle position and the maf reading. The ECM does not meter the fuel. If you increase the volume at which the fuel flows, you will get more fuel when the injectors open. More volume and pressure will yield more fuel.

If the Nissan injectores are such a great mod, than why will no ones car run right?

they wont run correctly because the ECU has to be REPROGRAMMED FOR THE INCREASED FUEL being dumped into the engine. the ECU cannot automatically tell what injectors are in it and adjust. Its preprogrammed for the 185's from the factory. So even with these new injectors, the engine still wont run correctly.

increasing pressure does not affect the output enough to warrent even doing such mod. I have dyno charts to prove it.

at 15PSI with TWE exhaust and WRX-STi TMIC..the injectors go 100% STATIC (Wide open 100%+ duty cycle...thats BAD BAD BAD) at 2800 RPM.

Why would it have to know, for timing and spark? What about installing an AFC with injectors? Has anyone used an AFC yet?

the ecu is preprogrammed with the 185's....so when it is at idle, it knows EXACTLY what to tell the injectors to do for idle fuel delivery. At cruise at x RPM+x load=same...it knows exactly what to deliver.

with bigger injectors...it will still be doing that...but on the 185 map...so at idle it'll be delivering...but from the O2 readings it'll be going  frm the A/F...so it'll start doing odd junk and pulling fuel...adding...pulling...adding...etc. It wont get it right. Same for when its cruising/underboost etc....I know this as I have done it before. I had some 300's installed for a while (dont know where they went). The ECU can compensate for a little, but not really...and not a lot at all. So you might could get away with 200~225's at 36 PSI...but thats it really. ours are 185@36, and 245@45...

with a SAFC-II you might could tune the fuel out to make it run OK....just OK...not stock or something spectacular...but make it run OK. Even a master tuner could only get it in the OK range and thats it. The ECU and SAFC will still be fighting each other.

the ONLY way to REALLY get it right...is to beable to reflash the ECU like Ecutek for the WRX/STi/Legacy GT 05+/EVO etc...or go with a standalone.

you can make a piggyback work too....but thats like the SAFC and they will be fighting each other.

Otherwise, the size of the injectors has nothing to do with timing-spark.

Cliff notes: No. You can do that, its been done many times before and proven as an 'OK' method. Not that I know of on an EA82 Gen3 SUBARU.

ok, heres the RX with TWe header/DP/STi TMIC/intake on STOCK boost. A/F's are nice and safe.

rx_run1.jpg

Same conditions 2 runs later at 13.5 psi:

rx_run4.jpg

Notice at 4k the A/F's start going up...the injectors are static.

I have the 15 PSI run with the fuel pressure at MAX (80 psi) but not with the A/F's on it. I'll post that up monday when i extract it from the Dyno Computer....but here's the chart anyhow.

So is it possible to get a flash file done? Has anyone looked into it? I remember when I worked at subaru they use to flash ecms for people. Maybe Jet or another company could do it, or at least make us a chip.
