Well, almost made it back on my own....

Recommended Posts

Suby made it all the way to Beatty, NV when she gave up and died: She started going extreemly lean and started stumbling just outside of Tonopah, NV. I let her cool off, and limped her to Tonopah and had a local mecanic test the fuel pressure: 20 psi. Hummmmmm not good. SO, I tried putting an aftermarket fuel injection pump in-line and that got me to just outside of Beatty where she just wouldn't run past 1/8th throttle. Let her cool off again and limped her to a hotel/casino and parked her there. Callled home, and Dad came up there, put her on a trailer and hauled her home.

What's strange is the bouncing idle I was getting at the show disappeared at higher elevations. I think they are related. Suby just doen't like the heat, I guess. Figures, the one part I didn't have with is the part that died. Bummer.

Anyways, had a blast at the show. Met alot of people and want to do it again next year!

Glad to hear you made it home safe. Was a pleasure travelling and hanging with ya at the show, hope to see you again.

Just out of curiosity, where did you overnight Sunday night? We NV folk were guessing either Eugene or Klamath Falls, considering the time you left Shelton.

Dang dude that sucks. You DID have fun in that sube at the show though, it was probably payback for that.:) Glad you made it back all right though. I had some troubles coming back in the the brat as well, and had to limp it home from oakridge Oregon.

We got on the road at about 1PM Suday afternoon. We overnighted on the side of the road about 20 miles north of Susanville,CA at about 1 in the morning, got up at 6 and back on the road again. No problem holding 70+ on the I-5. BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ!!!

Jibs: No, I think Suby just got jealous cause I was drooling over a few late 70's F250s on the way back.

Yes, it was fun hanging out with you guys! Will hafto do that again!

I got her running again tonight, but I can't use more than 1/2 throttle otherwise she goes full lean and stalls. Kinda wondering if it's fuel or TPS.....or both? Going to get some parts and build myself a fuel pressure guage and see if the aftermarket pump is sufficient enough pressure. Otherwise, it looks like it'll be a wapping 260 for a new fuel pump. Ouch....

If that isn't it, then I will hafto say I had vapor lock.

Oh yes, my muffler completely blew out too. It was on it's way out at the show, but it's got a hole the size of a softball now. And it wasn't from a log or a rock, it worked it's way apart during the drive down.

Yeah, I'm gonna get that cleaned too. I'm going to clean the engine compartment and see if that makes any difference.

Currently, I have no spark. Gonna hafto pull out the oscilliscope and start tracking the spark signal and find out where it's getting lost. Fuel pressure is dropping, so I ordered a new fuel pump. I also am going to pull the access cover off the fuel tank and see if there might be somthing blocking the inlet.

Fun fun fun!

I put a new fuel pump in and no difference. Bummmer. I did find a bad spot on the wiring harness; looks like it got rather toasty. So, I'm going to replace it with some new wiring and relocate the ground point for the ECU harness. I really don't like the fact that the wiring runs right over the t-stat housing. I think I am also going to add a few more ground points in the engine compartment.
