subyrally
youll need a 19mm socket and torque wrench for the wheels, 14mm wrench for the caliper bolts, and a 17mm for the bracket bolts. you will aslo need a c-clamp or large channel lock pliers for the pistons. anti seize lube for the threads of the bolts, and brake lube (syl-glide), aside from that, you need a jack and some jack stands. you shouldnt need too much more than that. brakes are suber easy. just make sure you coat th hub with anti seize after you remove any rust, it help preven future rust and makes it easier to remove the rotr later. i think it also helps with brake noise. good luck and have fun with it. idosubaru
i just did my 97 OBS the other week, super easy! didn't do the rotors though. i pad slapped mine and they work dandy. basic tools do you just fine for the pads and man they are cake. don't forget to open the brake master cylinder up to relieve the pressure as you press the pistons in. Andyjo
rotors are also super easy. you just undo 2 more bolts, remove the bracket.. give the rotor a kick and it should pop right off. Rust was the only problem i've had to work with
jimscat
these guys are right, brakes and rotors are suber easy. i did mine a couple of yrs ago and i had never messed with brakes on anything. just remember to put everything back. i forgot a clip on the left front and the pads chatter every now and then. later, Peter
Well, looks like i'm doing pads and rotors on all 4 corners this coming weekend. What tools am I going to need for a 990BW. Are the caliper bolts actually bolts are are they hex head? gotta join the chorus here... I did the 99 OBW last week. the hardest part was getting the brake pads. It was so easy, I wanted to do them again to be sure it was really THAT simple. (I did actually remove on set of pads two times to put on the shim I had neglected to remove from the worn pad)... Anyway, have fun. Later, Peter
